GajaKesari yoga<\/a> is a very well-known yoga. It is a combination which everybody seems to have heard about and hence misconceptions abound! Evocatively named, it could mean that the person will have all the qualities of a Gaja(elephant) and a Kesari(lion) – two of the strongest and majestic animals on earth. Another explanation is that the person will be like a lion, which is feared by even elephants.<\/p>\n

When does GajaKesari yoga occur<\/h2>\n

Gajakesari Yoga<\/a> depicts a relation between Guru (Jupiter) and Chandra(Moon). It occurs when these two Grahas are in a kendra(quadrant) from each other. Simply put, Moon should be in 1-4-7-10<\/strong> houses from Jupiter or vice-versa. It is also said to occur if Guru is in a  kendra (1-4-7-10<\/strong>) from Lagna<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The second requirement is that both Guru and Chandra should be strong, well-placed, without afflictions and with benefic associations.<\/p>\n

Why is this called GajaKesari ? My guess is that Guru is the largest and heaviest graha and its favourable position from either Lagna<\/a> or Chandra in the horoscope is similar to elephants deferring to the lion !<\/p>\n

How common is GajaKesari Yoga<\/h2>\n

The probability of this yoga from Chandra or Lagna<\/a> is 4\/12<\/strong> each! So two out of three people will have this yoga…about 66%<\/strong> making this an extremely common yoga. But, if one factors in the other conditions mentioned above, then I estimate the probability of a strong, viable GajaKesari Yoga<\/a> to be at about 4%<\/strong> (1 in 25)<\/p>\n

GajaKesari Yoga<\/a> would be at its best in Meena Lagna<\/a> with Guru and Chandra in Lagna<\/a> or in 5th house<\/a> in Kataka. Kataka Lagna<\/a> with Guru and Chandra in 9th house in Meena is another bewitching placement. Vrischika Lagna<\/a> with Guru & Chandra in 9th house in Kataka is magnificent. The probability of each of these is 1 in 1,700 and hence suitably rare.<\/p>\n

Effects of GajaKesari Yoga<\/h2>\n

The stated effects are comforts, conveniences, high position, intellectual proficiency etc. In any horoscope, the effects could be more linked to the bhavas the yoga occurs in and the lordship of both Guru and Chandra. Check your horoscope by date of birth<\/a> to see whether you have this yoga.<\/p>\n

Famous people with GajaKesari Yoga<\/h2>\n

Queen Elizabeth II<\/a> has a strong 7th house Chandra with Guru debilitated in the Ascendant, but the Neecha Bhanga maybe adds to the combination, giving her a long-lasting stable marriage. I would give this a potency of 60%<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nalwadi KrishnaRaja Wodeyar<\/a>, the wonderful King of Mysore, has this yoga occurring in Lagna<\/a> with a potency of 80%<\/strong>, giving him a long, blemish-free reign and ever lasting name.<\/p>\n

Mahatma Gandhi<\/a> too  has this yoga involving his 7th & 10th houses with a potency of 65%<\/strong>. And Gandhiji’s life is known for Kasturba & his life work.<\/p>\n

David Cameron<\/a>, the two term British Premier has this yoga in his 11th house giving him great success helped a great deal due to his wife’s family background (Guru being 7th lord.)<\/p>\n
